Feb 16 – A Long Walk Around Town

Took a long walk today from one side of the island to the other; in other words, from the Gulf of Mexico
to the Atlantic Ocean.  Since Key West is approximately 2 miles x 4 miles, it didn’t take long to get to the
Southernmost point in the US (which actually is now claimed by the Naval Base, after
using some “fill” to extend part of their property).

Climbed up the 88 steps to the
top of the lighthouse and Marty inched her way
all around the top.

Roosters and chickens roam freely around Key West.
We were told by a tour guide that birds are protected throughout the Keys,
thus these guys are able to share the sidewalks, roads, and tourist
areas right along with visitors and residents.  There are definitely two
passionate sides in the ongoing dispute about these birds’ rights on the island.

The sign says it all, and we were anxious to see this favorite hangout of Hemingway’s.

We were just in time for the 5:30 show featuring Patrick and the Swayzes.
This was song #2, so we could only imagine how the night rocked on here.
We still had more to see and a shuttle bus to catch back to the marina, so
we had to move on up Duval St.

Of course, we had to stop in here . . .

Back up by the north side of Duval, we
decided to stop in at Bagatelle for an outstanding
dinner of Tuna Tataki, finished with
a generous slice of Key Lime Pie.
