Key West February 23, Part 2

After two hours at the Eco Discovery Center, we stopped for lunch at Blue Heaven in the Bahama Village section of Key West.  The building’s history began in the late 1800’s where the owners sold spirits to folks in Key West.  A dance hall, bordello, gallery,  billiard hall, ice cream parlor, and playhouse once thrived here; Hemingway refereed boxing matches where the tables now stand.  Jumping ahead in its history to 1992, “Suanne the artist and Richard the writer” served their first meals to customers, and business became so brisk that Richard brought his brother on board from his chef’s position at the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, NC.

After biking back to the boat and taking a swim at the Galleon pool, we walked downtown to Two Cents, with an amazing menu offering anything and everything from wings to seared fois gras .  In case you decide to visit and are looking for a nearby landmark, they are located right next to the “Leather Master” boutique (hey, it’s Key West!).

“What kind of picture is this?” you ask . . . well, THIS is the reason we did not get back to the boat until 12:30 a.m.  We walked from Two Cents towards Virgilio’s, and the music drew us through the door and there we stayed for a couple of hours.  Michelle Dravis (guitar, vocals) was there with “Skipper” (percussion) and Yvan Agbo (pictured on guitar).  We hope to catch them one more time before we leave Key West.
