Mother’s Day & An Afternoon in Norfolk

Mother’s day was a cold and rainy boat day.  We were at a dock at Tidewater Marina in Portsmouth, glad that the tornado that went through the area last evening left us alone.  We had a nice Mother’s Day celebration onboard – Marty received a beautiful card, a nice bottle of David Bruce Chardonnay, a new Yeti wine tumbler, and sweet phone calls from the kids – followed by one of her favorite meals – BBQ ribs and grilled veggies.  (No, she wasn’t temporarily abducted by aliens when the menu was planned; and, actually any pork that comes from the Niman Ranch is excellent.)

Monday’s weather also left a lot to be desired, so we decided to stay put in Portsmouth and take the passenger ferry over to Norfolk.  Note the flooded docks in the picture of the boat basin at the bottom.  This area experiences regular flooding at high tide…

This gave us the opportunity to visit Marty’s favorite bookstore, Prince Books.  Marty bought a few cards (one can never have too many cards!), and from there we walked over to the Blue Moon Tap Room for a very good lunch and of course some beer.
