Highlights of Vero (1/1 thru 1/26/20)

Vero Beach is also nicknamed Velcro Beach by cruisers, and we came to understand why over the past three weeks. Almost everything a boater needs is available in Vero: a protected mooring field in inclement weather; free transportation to the beach, restaurants, shopping, etc; a bank of dinghy docks with a potable water station; bathrooms, showers, laundry, ice, fuel, mail delivery and pickup; pumpouts at your boat three times per week; waterside restaurants accessible by dinghy; an art museum, theater, boutique shops, post office, dog park, all within walking distance; and, a boat diver/repairman whom we would happily nominate for sainthood for a variety of reasons after he helped us over the past 3+ weeks. So, it’s easy to get “stuck” in Vero, whether it’s for the convenience and comfort of the place, or the protection offered when the weather is nasty. To be sure, we have had more than our share of miserable weather this month, but there have also been some beautiful days in between. Here are some more highlights of our stay in Vero Beach.

This amazing photo of sunset, captured by Doug.
We took the dinghy over to the beach to see the SpaceX launch – also a banner day, being Marty’s 70th birthday (1/19). After viewing the launch, we had a bountiful breakfast at the Oceanside Grill.
Our serene mooring location. Our rafting neighbors were a delightful couple from Oregon, who purchased their boat from a broker in our marina in New Bern.
Our mooring neighbors, Claudia and Steve. We had many laughs together, and are grateful to have met them.
Watching surfers at the beach.
Maureen and Jim paid us a visit as they traveled from Ft. Lauderdale to Sebastian. We had a fabulous dinner at the Ocean Grill – good times, good friends.
Returning to the boat via dinghy, just before sunset.
