Marathon Update – 3/26/20

The Waterway Guide list of marina closures gets longer every day, and work continues here at Marathon Marina to move boats to the long-term docks and out of the “transient” section. After Hurricane Irma devastated part of this marina, a grant was obtained for this new section of docks with the stipulation they be for short-term stays, so there is an enforceable time limit on these slips. Fortunately, there are enough empty long-term docks to accommodate everyone.

Yellow tape is put in place once a dock is vacated.

The Keys remain closed to vacationers, and checkpoints have been set up on U.S. 1 between the mainland and Key West. There are now 11 cases of Coronavirus in the Keys.

The restaurant at our marina remains open for takeout only.

We do take a LONG dinghy ride every afternoon before sunset. It helps to ease our worries about getting home. Last evening, three dolphins jumped towards the bow of our dinghy snout-first, landing perhaps six feet in front of us. We were told that if you see a dolphin jump, you’ll have good luck. We hope that’s true!
