Covered Bridge Tour

Bridgeton Bridge and Mill
The original Bridgeton Bridge was built in 1868. In 2005, it was fell victim to arson, but was reconstructed in 2006 as pictured above.
This is the Thirty Six Saloon in Rockville, where we had a casual lunch outdoors. It is a favorite stop for bikers, who seem to know the prettiest routes and the best places to eat (we learned this when living in CA).
Kayakers under the Jackson Bridge. Even though they seem to be in still waters, there was a very swift current.
The Narrows Bridge – our first stop. There are 39 bridges on the covered bridge map from Parke County, the “Covered Bridge Capital of the World.” Up until now, the time we’ve spent in Indiana has been on the death-defying routes of I-65 and I-90 going into Chicago. Today’s sightseeing took us down gravel roads and alongside miles of cornfields, oftentimes traveling at 25 mph or less. We’ve seen a more serene side of the state these past two days, we’re happy to say.
