Gros Morne – Sunday & Monday – June 11, 12

Looking at trails rated “easy” on the park map, the four of us drove over to the Coastal Trail. Fairly flat, with sections of boardwalk interspersed along the trail, it seemed like a good choice. We didn’t factor in the northerly wind along the shore, though, so it was a short walk. 🙂

The trail from the parking lot parallels Baker’s Brook
Baker’s Brook empties into the ocean, reminding us of the Pajaro and Russian Rivers in California.
There’s plenty of driftwood,
lots of pretty wildflowers,
and super-smooth rocks.
Blue Violets
Marsh Marigold
Forget-Me-Nots
Yes, it’s cold!
These sets of chairs are everywhere, inviting nature lovers to stop and enjoy the view.
Back on Route 430, we decided to stop at Lobster Head Lighthouse
The lighthouse was open, so we were able to climb some of the stairs for a beautiful view.
This docent played the folk song, “Maid on the Shore.”
Imagine raising a family here ….
Later in the day, the wind died down and the temperature went up, so Doug and I went back out for a walk around Berry Head Pond.
Wild Lily of the Valley
Corn Lily (?)
Northern Starflower
Bunchberry

I purchased a book on wildflowers and ferns, so I hope to be able to identify all of these plants before we leave Newfoundland on June 21.
