Westward Bound

Wanderlust has struck again.  It has been a little over 10 months since we returned from our Newfoundland camping trip, and now we’re traveling west instead of northeast.  Yosemite is calling, and we’ve missed old friends we’ve not seen in almost 20 years.  We hope we’ve timed our departure and calculated our route to avoid hazardous weather, with short distances between overnight stops.  Below is a portion of our planned travel.

Campsite 9, Loop 1, Parkers Creek

We left New Bern at 2 pm on May 26, 2024, and arrived at Jordan Lake a little before 5 pm., giving us approximately 2.5 hours to relax and have dinner before putting away the grill, chairs, rug, door mats, and awning – inclement weather was approaching.  With everything secured, we went to bed – at 8:30!!  (Getting ready for this trip was really quite a process!)   That turned out to be a very wise move, because we were continuously awakened from 11 pm until 6 am by thunderstorms – we actually had a “lakefront” campsite until 10 am, but then the water receded, we hooked up to the truck and were on our way to Fancy Gap, VA.

This is site #51 at the Fancy Gap KOA.  We love it here!  The Blue Ridge Parkway is a two-minute drive from the campground, so we took a drive to see the last remaining springtime blooms.

Tomorrow (Tuesday), we’ll be on the road early, since our distance to Lexington, KY, is a little bit longer than these past two days.

    1. Thanks, Betsy & Bob. For awhile we thought we’d have to cancel the whole trip bc my GI issues flared. So glad we are on our way! Hope you both are well.

  1. Marty, Linda forwarded this to me. If you don’t mind would you please add me to your list. I don’t plan to do any more traveling so would like to live this trip vicariously through you. My email is artjean@suddenlink.net. Have a wonderful trip.
