A Quick Trip to Telluride – 8/10/24

Since Montrose is only about 65 miles from Telluride (and a pretty drive), we decided to spend our Friday there.  We discovered the night before that the Telluride Jazz Festival was scheduled for that weekend, which would make the day even more fun.  I was also secretly hoping for a one-in-a-million chance to maybe bump into our former neighbor’s son, who lives there and has put on the Telluride Bluegrass Festival for many years.  We left Montrose with the sun shining and warm temperatures in the forecast.

We ran into rain as we drove into Telluride.
I took this shot of the ski resort from the truck.
Here we are in downtown Telluride.  Not only was it extremely crowded, it was raining so hard you couldn’t see the mountains in the distance (as in right behind the green trees).

We drove around town trying to find a  place to park, but our truck is quite large and requires a little more than the average parking place.  We saw a lot of the town in our search, but we finally gave up and headed back to Montrose.

It was a pretty drive back,
and the skies began to clear.
We stopped in Ridgway, CO, for lunch at The True Grit Cafe, so named because scenes in the movie by that same name were shot in and around Ridgway.

Tomorrow (Saturday 8/11), we’ll explore The Grand Mesa, the largest flat-topped mountain in the world.
