Vermont – 6/24/25

There is so much to see and do here that it’s impossible to fit in even a fraction of it in just a few days.  Today’s weather determined our plans for us:  with a heat index possibly reaching 105 degrees and severe storms predicted for late in the afternoon, we chose to be indoors and/or in the shade.

We started with a visit to the von Trapp Family Lodge.

It was lunchtime, so we drove down to the bierhall and restaurant.

The walls are decorated with all sorts of wildlife trophies.

The friendly and wecoming staff promptly presented us with menus.  Doug ordered the Grilled Bratwurst with Kraut and Tomato Salad, and I ordered the Cheddar Lager Soup.  Both were delicious, and I hope to come even slightly close to duplicating the soup after we get home.

After leaving the Lodge complex, we  drove around the village of Stowe, then went back up Rt. 108, stopping for a hike at Bingham Falls in Smugglers Notch State Park.

The trail started out easy but soon became very steep with many wet rocks and muddy spots.
We got to the falls overlook but decided against going further – we’re still overly-cautious due to Marty’s newly mended foot.
It was another beautiful day, and we returned to our camper with time to spare before the rain began.
