Our Key West "Homes" – Stock Island, Galleon Marina Key West

The Captain’s Lounge, Stock Island.

Artwork in the Captain’s Lounge by David Wegman, Sailor, Artist, Musician; studios in Key West, St. Barth’s, Maine, and Saratoga Springs, and teaches on St. John.  He spent 8 years circumnavigating the globe aboard his schooner, “The African Queen IV.”  According to web information, he was born in Ft. Wayne, IN (perhaps a distant relative of the Rochester Wegmans?  who knows??)

The Shrimp Rd. Grill, a short walk from the docks at Stock Island Marina.  Great food, and great music on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
One of our favorite “small world” stories from  this cruise.  This is General George Patton’s “When and If”, now owned by Doug Hazlitt of Hazlitt Wineries in the Finger Lakes.  We’ve been to both tasting rooms, most recently in Naples, NY, just “down the road” from our little place by the lake.  In 1939, Patton said of his boat, “When the war is over and if I live through it, Bea and I are going to sail her around the world.”   His dream was not realized, but Doug and his crew are hoping to do just that in 2017.  They currently offer daysails, sunset sails, and private charters on this John G. Alden ship, built in 1939.
