Eco Discovery Center – February 23

Rode our bikes from the Galleon Marina to the (FREE!!) Florida Keys Eco Discovery Center, with 6,000 sq. ft. of exhibits to educate the public about native plants and animals of the Keys and the need to protect and conserve the ecosystem of South Florida.

Lionfish – an invasive menace to the Atlantic waters.  The Red Lionfish and the Common Lionfish can
eat fish twice their length, have few predators, and a single female can spawn over 2 million eggs per year.  We have heard that some restaurants now offer Lionfish on their menues – we’re not sure about their appeal as an entree.
