Back to Deltaville – June 11-19

We left Urbanna, bypassing the Corrotoman River where we wanted to explore the anchorages, and headed to Deltaville while the weather and winds were favorable. We anchored Tuesday night in Jackson Creek, with the wind shifting and picking up during the night, making for a somewhat sleepless night.

Arriving at Fishing Bay Marina the next day, we were warmly greeted by our cruising buddies from 2016 — Jane, David, Diane, and Bob — who are spending a few weeks hauled out, working on various projects such as sanding, scraping, blister remediation, painting, teak repair, etc.

Our Florida Cruising buddies
Gregg & Judy added to the group

We had a lively reunion over several days, then were joined by Judy and Gregg, two more members of our Marathon gang from 2016. What a gift to have friendships that pick right up where you left off a few years ago. We had a scare the first night when Bob suddenly collapsed while we were walking back to our boats. 911 was called, and Bob was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital then released the next day, diagnosis being A-fib and overexertion. We are so thankful it wasn’t more serious.

Fishing Bay Marina – first time we have been here….

Friends Denise and Paul from New Bern joined us for two days, and we had a beautiful sail one day, then on day two toured the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park. Paul wasn’t feeling well, so they left early on what would have been day three; again looking at wind and weather conditions, we decided to leave Deltaville and go all the way to Norfolk.

  1. We spent the summer of 2007 there at Fishing Bay Marina! We enjoyed Deltaville and our stay there. Had property in nearby Lancaster, VA. where we thought we’d build a home one day. Interestingly, before heading to Fishing Bay that spring, we came to New Bern. As they say, the rest is history!

Enjoy your cruising. We always enjoyed the Bay, spent 11 years on it and back numerous times while living and cruising!
