We docked at Thunderbolt Marina for two nights so we could spend a day playing tourist in Savannah. Our Uber driver drove us in via Broughton Street, full of high-end shops and boutiques where I knew I could do some Christmas shopping. After our drop-off in the Market District, we backtracked and found what we were looking for in a couple of stores, admired the displays of the Savannah College of Art & Design, then had a delightfully informative conversation with the bellman at the Marshall House, a hotel constructed in 1851 and one of the most haunted places in the South. I am anxious to go back and spend a night there – Doug, however, feels differently. Stay tuned to see what happens on our return trip home.

We had lunch at the Boar’s Head Tavern and Grill, Savannah’s first restaurant on Historic River St. The restaurant is housed in an old cotton warehouse that dates back to the 1800’s. We both had grilled fish and grits – I confess that my plate had just one spoonful of grits remaining, while Doug’s was – um – empty.

After a round-trip river ride on the water taxi, we walked up River Street to a hotel with a rooftop bistro, had a glass of wine while enjoying the view, then went back to the marina. This is our third visit to this city, and we’ve barely scratched the surface as far as all there is to see, so we’ll have to plan on a longer stay this spring.

I can’t remember if I told you or not, but I lived in Savannah when I was a child. We will have to talk about it when you return! Continued safe travels!. It was 76 here yesterday; today did not get barely above 45!!

It will be fun hearing about your childhood memories! Yes, the weather is crazy everywhere. At least it’s warmer here in Florida. We even wore shorts the other day. 🙂

Hi M and D, Did we ever tell you that Savannah is one of our favorite stops? And a funny story… the last time we were there we had lunch at the Boars Head. We both ordered shrimp jambalaya and while eating Charlie dropped his spoon into the dish splashing the red sauce all over the front of his yellow shirt. Our waitress never skipped a beat and came bustling out with a clean white towel and a glass of club soda. She literally mopped him up and would you believe that a half an hour later there was not one single spot of stain and his yellow shirt so we were able to continue wandering down the road to the savanna candy factory and other destinations. It was such fun to see the photo of the restaurant. We are enjoying your travels while I feel a little bit stronger each day. Fairwinds and smooth seas ….. we love you.
