Key West – March 4, 5

On Wednesday morning we took care of some early preparations for Thursday’s departure from The Galleon in downtown Key West, then we took one last bike ride along the ocean and over to the US Coast Guard Cutter Ingham, named a national historic landmark in 1992 and now a member of the Key West Maritime Museum. After cooling off in their cafe at the stern of the ship, we decided to take the self-guided tour. I figured it would take about an hour – we were the last ones to leave at a little past their closing time of 4:30! I did not take enough pictures to help bring our tour to life in this blog post, unfortunately, but below are a few highlights.

Launched in 1936, she became the most decorated vessel in the Coast Guard Fleet, having served in World War II, Vietnam, and the Mariel Boat Lift

Thursday, March 5 – Dockmaster Cindy was superb with her assistance as we left our dock at the Galleon! Heading out of Key West Bight on a beautiful day with calm seas, we motor-sailed up to Cow Key Channel, back to Key West Harbor, and back again to Stock Island Marina Village, where we will stay until March 12.

Beautiful turquoise waters, but I missed the dolphins!
Back to Stock Island Marina Village, where things are a little more laid-back!

  1. Continuing to enjoy your blog. I spent a week at Ocean’s Edge with fraternity brothers. We had a great meal at the Key West Yacht Club thanks to one who was a member of the Buffalo Yacht Club.

    1. Hi Jim and Linda – thanks for following our travels. Ocean’s Edge is a short bike ride from where we are now at Stock Island Marina Village – we’ll have to go exploring! I am envious you were at the KWYC – you must have seen the Jeff MacNelly painting in the men’s room. 🙂 Thanks for your message. Hope you’re both well.

    1. Bryan, did you serve aboard this ship? Wish I had gotten more pix, but there was so much to read, a couple of videos to watch – it was very interesting and very well done.
