Back Where We Started From … Almost – 5/18/20

We arrived at Hilton Head yesterday (5/17) around 3:30 pm. We’re so glad to be back in this very secure harbor, where we spent Thanksgiving at the beginning of this cruise. We’ll stay here until the weather improves, probably 4 or 5 days – lots of rain ahead.

Our dock is in front of this beautiful home.
Our boat has the tan jib.

Doug took this picture – his new phone has a much better camera than mine, plus he spent his entire career working for Kodak ☺
We took a walk out to the pier today. The few people we encountered are making a great effort to stay at least six feet apart, and there’s less activity now than there was in frigid November.
In this view, you can see the swirls in the water, especially at the entrance. The current can make steering a challenge.

I cannot take credit for this photo, though we passed right by this unfortunate sailboat, caught by the current while passing through an old bridge that is only 50% functional. We passed under this bridge a few hours after this terrible incident, and Doug found it extremely challenging to fight the current while motoring through. There is a high-rise bridge under construction to replace the old bridge, but work was halted when the coronavirus hit.

  1. Shouldn’t Doug be using a Kodak Disc camera? What kind of Kodak photographer is he anyway! Glad you’re safe and sound in such a gorgeous place. Lotsa ugliness at home over the next few days weatherwise. Be safe and enjoy your respite.

  2. Love the pictures of Hilton Head. Unfortunately we missed it on our world travels. So glad you have such a beautiful place to hunker down for a few days. Miss you and love you.

      1. Linda is using the “Royal We”. I’ve been there! 😎
Whenever you think you’re having a bad day, think of the owner of the dismasted sailboat! Oh, man! 😢

  3. Welcome back to Windmill sv Ermelind! I recall your photos of our residents’ Christmas decorations in 2019. This is my home port. I will try to stop by and say hi. I saw your transom from the yacht club where Bob423 is docked for the night.

    1. How nice of you to write, and thanks so much for the warm welcome. You are so fortunate to call Windmill Harbour your home port – it’s a beautiful, peaceful place with such friendly people! We’re anchored in Church Creek now and have reservations in Charleston to tie up for the nasty weather ahead. Thanks so much for following our travels – this has been quite a cruise! m&d
