Heading Home – 6/6/20

We left Swansboro at 6:45 a.m. while the wind was still calm. Heavy rain was forecast for New Bern in the afternoon, but we only experienced a few sprinkles. We pulled into our slip at 3:30, after being away for just under seven months and logging 2,229 miles on the water. It is another surreal feeling, how quickly time passes – we were gone for over half the year, and suddenly all of the experiences in these previous posts are condensed into memories. Reflecting further, 39 years ago today we pledged to love, honor, and cherish. Yes, time passes quickly!

We are so very grateful for friends, family, and acquaintances who have traveled along with us via our blog. Your comments, “likes”, and checking on our whereabouts with a quick “view” have meant so much, especially during this Coronavirus pandemic when getting home as quickly as possible was challenged by erratic weather, marina closures, fuel availability, and the awareness of potential exposure to the virus in each new port. Over the years, we have sailed between the US and Canada, on the east coast, and on the west coast – this is certainly one cruise we’ll never forget.

  1. Thank you for documenting your land and sea adventures and challenges. All of us who have followed along have enjoyed a delightful vicarious vacation without the challenges (and sometimes) headaches you experienced on land and on the water. Looking forward to next year’s blog!

    1. Thanks, John and Virginia. Next year’s blog will be short – just a trip “next door” to the Chesapeake.

  3. Welcome home dearest friends!!! I don’t know what our summer plans for travel are at this point. Now I am waiting for an appointment with the neurosurgeon…possibly next week. I will keep you posted.
It would have been 26 years ago next month that you and Denny and I would have taken our last cruise together on Lake Ontario. I don’t think I could even have done what you folks have accomplished! Congratulations!!! We love you and with luck we will see you soon.
