10/4/21 – We’re taking a very indirect route to Chicago by heading northeast from New Bern to the KOA Outer Banks West in Coinjock, NC, a town we’ve visited many times by boat. We met our good friends Nancy, Jim, Sharon and Dick, and spent three nights at the campground with beautiful views of Currituck Sound.

There’s a short bike path that runs along the water, which we took advantage of. We also wanted to rent a kayak (available through the campground office), but the day was too windy.

Coinjock Marina is just minutes from the campground, so we drove over for an early dinner on Tuesday night. The dock was full of yachts heading south for the winter, which we admired from our patio table, and the food was great. On Wednesday we drove to The Weeping Radish Brewery & Restaurant, taking us down memory lane to our days as Newcomers and the Boaters’ Group weekend, where the first stop was there.

10/7/21 – We said goodbye to our friends on Thursday morning, and headed in a westerly direction to Jordan Lake.

Our campsite was at Parkers Creek Campground, Loop 1, Site 11, which was on a small hill. We were one of approximately six other campers in the entire place, so it was extremely quiet and peaceful. Next time, we’ll reserve one of the 20+ sites that are closer to the water.

Safe travels! We are volunteering at Tryon Palace today for the Plant Sale. Take care!
