Kentucky Horse Park

After one night in Asheville (Swannanoa), we stopped for an overnight at the Clinton/Knoxville North KOA. The highways on the way were in such bad shape that our Corelle dishes and a few other items flew out of the cupboard and onto the camper floor. Amazingly, nothing was broken. Close to the campground was Habanero’s Mexican restaurant plus an enormous WalMart where Doug purchased a Roku device to connect to our TV. Now we’ll be able to watch special programming on our wall-mounted tv instead of Doug’s iPad, which the four of us were huddled around last Saturday night for the Duke/UNC game.

We arrived at the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park on Thursday afternoon 4/7 – so nice to be back here! The torrential rain that came down in Clinton made its way up to Lexington on Wednesday night, so we needed to create a “patio” out of leveling blocks so we could get in and out of our camper without getting mud all over our shoes. Amazingly, the campground is full for the weekend. The Horse Capital Marathon and Half Marathon is being held on April 9, with a portion of the race going through the Horse Park. Also, Elton John is in concert at the Rupp Arena on the 9th, the reason for our travel here. We made a trial run downtown to see the arena and parking facilities – the doors open at 6:30, and we’re excited to finally be here after holding tickets since January 2020.

About the weather: the pictures that follow tell the story. At least we came prepared with appropriate clothing and plenty of propane to run the furnace. 🙂

This is what we call a “winter” sky.
Turquoise = snow
Saturday morning ~ 9 a.m. Doug was up earlier and said there was more snow on the ground ~ 8 a.m.
