On to Roan Mountain State Park, TN – 4/11/22

We were on the road at 8:29 a.m. on Monday morning in order to avoid more rain going through Lexington. We took a route north of Knoxville which became quite pretty as we got into the mountains.

Looking down on Cherokee Lake and Bear Station, TN, settled in 1776. Daniel Boone and William Bean first viewed this from the top of Clinch Mountain (elev. 4689). It became a main stopover between DC and New Orleans – several US presidents stayed at the tavern at Bear Station.
We arrived at our campground around 3 pm. The park (elev. 2972) has over 2,000 acres, with the Doe River running alongside the campground.
Flag of our campground hosts, who have a North Carolina connection – their daughter lives on Bald Head Island. Small world, once again!

    1. Love the pics and glad you are out and about exploring once again. Your truck and trailer are very spiffy! Enjoy! I sure miss those days!

    2. We’ve had two good days on the nature trails, including a short walk just now on the A.T. Thanks for following us once again! 💖
