Exploring the Blue Ridge, Asheville, and Bryson City

Two days of activity, good food, artwork, and spectacular views

When in the Asheville area, this is a “must see” along the Blue Ridge Parkway
We continued on to the River Arts District in downtown Asheville
I haven’t seen California Poppies in years!
A gallery owner told us about this Wood Fired Pizza Restaurant
This poster was at the entrance to a gallery whose owner is from Ukraine. We were so captivated by her collection that I left my phone there while selecting a few items to purchase. Thankfully, she put my phone in safekeeping until I returned several minutes later in a panic … I hugged her and thanked her profusely, asking for her card so I have her name …
so much more to this than just a phone.
We got back on the Parkway and found a trail where we could work off a bit of that fabulous pizza.
These charming little blossoms were the only wildflowers we saw – it was still quite chilly at 5,000+ feet

Breathtaking (literally) view!

We would love to someday take one of the excursions on The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, so we drove down to Bryson City to see what it’s all about.
Bryson City is a cute little town.
We got back on The Parkway at Cherokee, then stopped here to get some exercise.
The “Mountains to the Sea Trail” crosses the trail we were on
Our truck is down in the parking lot (above the rock wall in the picture). This was a tough climb!
Back on The Parkway, we had to stop to take a picture at the highest elevation point.
We also stopped at the Pisgah Inn to get information and a snack.
Doug took pictures for a couple who were celebrating a special occasion
One last picture, then it’s back to the campsite. Tomorrow (4/18) we leave the mountains for Jordan Lake.

  1. We loved the Art Center too. Couldn’t get out of there without buying the handmade corner table and a basket to hold keys. Dad also bought mom the stuffed black bear now residing on the back of the kitchen island bar stool. Love your mountain view pics. Miss you.

    1. Hi Linda, Many thanks to you and Bryan for following our travels. We’ll take special note of your “Parkway” treasures when we’re next together. Miss you and will see you soon. m&d
