Touring Maine – Aug. 12-14

Our first stop in Maine was Freeport, for two nights. Of course, we went to *all* of the LLBean stores, then had lunch at Linda Bean’s Maine Kitchen and Topside Tavern. An afternoon walk in Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park helped work off our lunch.

Campsite at Freeport/Durham KOA
We arrived early Saturday morning. The Watermelon Fest was just getting underway, with live music all day and lots of activities for the kids.
At Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park
Looking across at Googins Island, an Osprey nesting area. No one is allowed on or near the island.
We left the shore and walked up to the Casco Bay trail

We also looked around Wolfe’s Neck Center and Oceanfront Campsites. We may try to book a campsite there on our return trip.

We crossed this bridge en route to Bar Harbor and our campsite at Hadley’s Point. No, we did not go to the top of the observatory.
Lunch at Beal’s Lobster Pier
Our lunch spot was adjacent to the Coast Guard station
Bass Harbor Lighthouse, built in 1858

    1. Hi Kathy and Greg! Doug had his first lobster roll yesterday. Out-of-this-world, but pricey: $30. Going to Acadia today and hope for some good pix. Hope you both are well.
