Exploring in and around Camden, ME – 8/21 – 8/23

We arrived here on Sunday afternoon.
Such a beautiful campsite – this may become my all-time favorite ….
We went into downtown Camden to have a late lunch at The Sea Dog.
This was the view from our table.
If you want lobster, be prepared for sticker shock. We found these to be average prices, given the number of places we have stopped for lunch.
After lunch we walked down to Laite Beach.
Note the swimmer about to join the two hardy souls going out to the float – perhaps this is a late-afternoon ritual in the summer? Bravo!
Before returning to our campsite, we took the Shoreline Trail along Penobscot Bay, one of many trails within Camden Hills S.P.
Monday morning drive up to Mount Battie.
View of Camden Harbor
Once the site of a hotel in the late 1800’s, this stone tower was built in 1921 and dedicated to the soldiers from Camden who served in WWI
View from atop the tower
Also, this ….
After Mount Battie, we stopped here and did a little shopping.
The homes in and around Camden are charming and beautiful.
Rockport
Note the interesting way of securing one’s dinghy
View of the Curtis Island Lighthouse.
We decided to visit more lighthouses tomorrow.
Time for a campfire before putting things away – rain is in the forecast
Yes, it rained all night long!
Yet it was dry enough to put out chairs for morning coffee
Taking the Rockland Harbor Trail on Tuesday, out to the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse
Looking back at shore – it is a 7/8 mile walk each way along the breakwater.
Doug took this shot from a floating dock off of the breakwater.
Next stop, Owls Head
Along the trail to the Owls Head Lighthouse
Heading back down, and thinking about lunch!
Time for another lobster roll for Doug, and a grilled haddock sandwich for me.
View from our table. We’re still trying to identify this bird (as is the man at the table next to ours).
Another nice night for a campfire

      1. Last time I was in Camden was ‘93, before I met Linda. I remember buying a 1 1/4 pound lobster from a vendor next to the dinghy dock. Might have cost $3! I guess prices have gone up since then….

      2. Ha, ha !!! And then there’s the cost of fuel these days. PB&J after we get home to balance the budget. 🙂 🙂
