Fall Foliage 2022

Doug wanted one more outdoor adventure before preparing our camper for winter weather. Fairy Stone Park in Stuart, VA, turned out to be the perfect place to go “Leaf Peeping” this year. The colors have been spectacular. To avoid a long drive to western Virginia, we first stopped overnight at Jordan Lake on Sunday, 10/23, giving us just a three-hour+ drive on Monday. From occasional spots of color among the pines at Jordan Lake, we settled into campsite #3 at Fairy Stone Park surrounded by shades of red, yellow, and orange.

Just a little bit of fall color at Jordan Lake.
On Monday, we drove over to Fairy Stone Lake, then returned to our campsite.
On Tuesday (after morning coffee) we went to the Visitors Center for a talk on Fairy Stones and a guided walk through the Hunt Site.
We had a bit of luck, finding mostly
St. Andrews crosses and single hexagonal crystals.
After lunch, we took the trail towards the Mountain View Trail, which runs below our campsite.
Drawing of our campground. We are on the second “green” loop on the right.
Wednesday’s walk was on the Lakeshore Trail
We’ll go back to Jordan Lake on Thursday, then return home on Friday.
