A Stop in Nova Scotia – 5/15, 16

We took the Sunrise Trail for a large part of our drive to North Sydney, Nova Scotia.  We saw lots of small towns and many downed trees, as we did in New Brunswick.  Our server at lunch told us how Hurricane Fiona, a Category 4 Atlantic Hurricane, devastated this area in September 2022.  Sustained winds were 105 mph, and the storm caused over 600 million dollars in damage.

We stopped at the Harbour House in Pictou for lunch. Pictou’s nickname is “The Birthplace of New Scotland.” The first large group of Scottish immigrants arrived in 1773 aboard the ship, “Hector.” A replica of the ship is currently being refurbished.
We had The Best tomato soup as part of our lunch. When asked about the recipe, we were told it is “tomatoes, red peppers, and cream” 🙂

We leave tomorrow morning (Wednesday) for Newfoundland, a seven-hour ferry ride.
