Arriving at our campground, Yosemite Pines RV Resort & Family Lodging, Doug set up the grill for dinner, and we relaxed after a beautiful drive from Reno to Groveland. We’ll be up early to get into the park (26 miles away) and find a parking place. There is a shuttle bus system with (normally) 19 stops, but several of the stops were eliminated at the end of the route due to ongoing repairs and construction – we were told it was a very rough winter in the park. We were able to fill our days regardless, as can be seen from the pictures that follow.
Downtown GrovelandOur first stop on Thursday, Yosemite FallsThis bronze relief map shows the trails to lower and upper Yosemite Falls. Notice the switchbacks at the beginning of the hike. Doug and I conquered the lower falls trail around 25 years ago; although we were younger, in better shape, and many pounds lighter, it was still a difficult trail.Yosemite CreekYosemite Creek Bridge (no, this photo was not edited or enhanced – Doug says it’s because his brand-new iPhone has a much better camera – and, he’s right πOur next stop was Happy Isles, the starting point for the Mist Trail The Merced RiverIn our younger years, we made it to the top of Nevada Falls.Β Today, we’ll be happy to reach the bridge at Vernal Falls. I should add that temperatures are in the 90’s today. If you make it to the top of Vernal Falls, you will have achieved a 1,000 ft. elevation gain.We made it to the bridge at the falls. Notice Yosemite Falls in the background After exceeding 17,000 steps today, we rewarded ourselves with dinner at the Iron Door in Groveland. It may be over 150 years old and look a little funky, but the food is outstanding.
Tomorrow, we’ll explore more of the Valley, then drive up to Glacier Point.
M&D, amazing pictures! We hope to do that trip. Love to you both
