Downtown Flagstaff & Sedona – 7/1, 7/2

We stayed in “Flag” (we’ve learned this is the locals’ term) on Monday and began my search for a wall piece I saw in Arizona 25 years ago (and, regrettably, did not purchase).   We started downtown at the Arizona Handmade Gallery, which reminded us of Carolina Creations back in New Bern.   Not finding what I was looking for (but luck with finding some pretty jewelry, which Doug encouraged), it was suggested we try Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village in Sedona.  Advice noted.  We then went to two other galleries, making a purchase at The Artists’ Gallery for our “Southwest” wall back home.  Walking back to the truck, we stopped for lunch at Dark Sky Brewing and Beer Garden – delicious, fresh salads with roasted pineapple, fresh mozzarella, crispy prosciutto, and balsamic dressing.     I must add that in 2001, Flagstaff became the world’s first official “Dark Sky” city because of its dedication to eliminating light pollution.

Back on Route 66, we drove over to Fort Tuthill County Park to check out a model train display (unfortunately, it wasn’t open), but Doug has plenty of train viewing time right in Flagstaff, since 100 or more trains run through downtown per day!

On Tuesday, we drove to Sedona, taking the scenic route along Oak Creek.

Coming into the Red Rocks
Time for lunch (again), so we went upstairs to the Oak Creek Grill.  After lunch and leaving the Village, we drove around the red rocks, capturing some beautiful sights.
We saw the Chapel of the Holy Cross in the distance.
Getting a closer look
A church volunteer gave us a golf cart ride from the parking lot up to the Chapel entrance.
This property was hard to overlook from the Chapel walkway.
Sedona is known as a spiritual place regardless of one’s religious affiliation, though this setting is certainly capable of stirring the soul.
It’s time to get back to Flagstaff.   Goodbye for now, Sedona.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to view our latest pix. It’s nice to know you traveled some of the same roads as we are. 🙂 XO
