I mention Salinas in this title, but we actually spent very little time there, other than sleeping in our camper and doing laundry at the KOA. The first place we went after getting settled in our campsite was Phil’s Fish Market. We were happy to see that some things haven’t changed since 2007 (other than the store and restaurant moving up the street from Moss Landing to Castroville).

Friday night’s dinner:Β Red Snapper (and shrimp for Doug) with lemon zest and almonds in brown butter.Β
On Saturday, we ran errands and did laundry (first time since Flagstaff!), then we drove to Pacific Grove for a dinner date with our former neighbors, Stephanie and Glenn.

After seeing this lighthouse, we drove over to meet our friends.Β Β We had so much to catch up on after 17 years have passed, that I never asked the restaurant owner to take our picture!Β Β I will just say that none of us have aged one bit!Β π And, Glenn (the oldest among us) is still surfing *and* working.
On Sunday, we drove to Big Sur since Hwy. 1 was finally opened as far as Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.Β We were elated to see the sun shining as we got closer to The Big Sur River Inn – the marine layer has hovered over the area since our arrival on Friday (and has triggered my asthma).

The restaurants name nepenthe was the name of my brothers sailboat. How timely that is now.
