Chicago, Lexington  – 8/29 – 9/4/24

We had a busy yet relaxing time in Chicago, with lots of “Mom” time with Chris, Doug went to three different train shops (one of them twice), and then family time with the six of us after Stu returned from work-related travel and Natalie joined us after her Saturday class at the Art Institute.  Below are a few pix.

Our budding artist
Stu and Isaac before the parade.  Stu is among the many parents who volunteer their time to support the Schaumburg High marching band.
Chris and I were so busy shopping, getting pedicures, and cooking together that I never took a picture of the two of us.  Here’s one of my favorites from this past Christmas.  You can see how the kids have grown!
Here’s Isaac in the Schaumburg Labor Day parade with his high school marching band.  He’s in front of the big bass drum (to the left in the picture).

After our busy Labor Day weekend, Chris was back to work, Stu was on a plane for his job, Natalie was back at SAIC, classes resumed for Isaac, and we began our return trip home.  We made our usual stop in Crawfordsville, IN, then went on to Lexington, KY, staying once again at the Kentucky Horse Park for two nights to recharge.  We did venture out to two bourbon distilleries on Thursday afternoon.   Pix below.

We signed up for a tasting (just like the wineries, these are no longer free, so we opted for the “short” tour, which included this).  I can honestly tell you that this tasting landed on MY list of Life’s Unpleasant Experiences, though the presentation was interesting.
We also stopped by to walk around this ultra-modern tasting room and grounds, which overlook the Kentucky River.

  1. Family time is great! We’re on our way up to the Adirondacks for a week with our crew! Of course since Matt and Caiti are flying in with their little guy we’re trying to pack all the baby items! It’s going to be a long morning trying to get everything in( and out of the rain tomorrow!)… But can’t wait for all to be together! Hopefully we’ll talk to you guys soon!
