Fancy Gap, VA; Mt. Airy, NC; Jordan Lake – 9/7 – 9/11/24

We’ve traveled from coast to coast, and one of our favorite campgrounds is still the KOA at Fancy Gap, VA.  We spent two nights here toward the end of our almost-four-month trip and enjoyed discovering new places in the mountains once again.

Our “faux” campfire, which does keep us warm
In the 16+ years we’ve lived in North Carolina, we’ve never been in Mt. Airy until now.

Veterans’ Memorial in town
We drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway, then took a detour to check out Round Peak winery.  We were surprised to learn from another couple arriving in their motorhome that the winery participates in Harvest Host.
With views of Skull Camp Mountain and Round Peak, their back patio is a very relaxing spot.

On Monday, we’ll drive to Jordan Lake, our last stop on this trip.

Tucked into the trees at Jordan Lake, we just have to walk a few steps to the water’s edge.

We’ve been gone since May 26, have camped in 17 states, and our Tundra truck has traversed over 15,000 miles.  We live in a beautiful country, and whether you spend time on your back porch, stroll around the block, or travel east to west, north and south, getting outdoors can restore one’s body and spirit.  Thanks, everyone, for following our travels once again!

    1. Thank you for being our traveling companions from afar! You, Steve, and the boys have traveled the globe, so you are well–versed in the thrill of seeing and being in new places. Thanks for sharing in yet another adventure of ours. Love, Mom and Doug
