Roan Mountain, TN – 6/2 – 6/5/25

We were lucky to get reservations months ago for another beautiful stay at Roan Mountain State Park.

Hurricane Helene made a visit here last fall, unfortunately, washing out the bridge and preventing access to the trail along the Doe River.
Luckily, we could get to the river from another part of the campground.
Tuesday, June 3 – Overlook at the Miller Farmstead
Trail off of the viewing area – several trails remain closed due to damage from Hurricane Helene.
One of the older markers at the Miller family cemetery
Along the trail at the Peg Leg Mine, which is considered to be the oldest iron mine in the area, dating back to Colonial days.
We all made it across this bridge
(1.3 mile trail, described as moderately strenuous)
Wednesday, June 4 – Ready to hike!
For the first time, we are here when the Rhododendrons are starting to bloom,
. . . and so are the wildflowers.
We made it to Round Bald!
Going back down the trail towards the parking lot – tomorrow we’ll leave Roan Mountain for Fancy Gap, Virginia.
