Shenandoah National Park Day 1 – 6/9/25

After lunch at Skyland, we drove south to the trailhead at Dark Hollow Falls.  This is described as a moderate hike, but it’s more challenging than that after a rain, when rocks are slick and trails are muddy.  That aside, it was beautiful and well worth the effort.

Two deer crossed the trail after we interrupted them drinking from the stream.
We made it to the falls!

ShenandoaDay #2 – Tuesday, June 10

We discussed taking the Lewis Spring Falls Loop, but it is described as being a steep, rocky trail in some of the sections, so we decided to take only a portion of the Loop, which rewarded us with spectacular views and beautiful wildflowers, minus the risks.  We also were on the Appalachian Trail for part of the hike – another bonus!

We had a clear, warm day, perfect for hiking and picture taking.
We hiked up to Blackrock after having lunch at The Meadows Lodge dining room.
Wildflowers were plentiful along the trail.
Butterflies!
We did not go to the falls – a fellow hiker sat near this marker, recovering from his attempt to do so.
We had another excellent day of hiking!
