Chocorua & The Lakes Region (Part 2 – Lake Winnipesaukee, Hike in Pinkham Notch – 7/16-17)

Thursday (7/16) was a perfect day for a boat tour on Lake Winnipesaukee. According to our tour guide aboard the ship, the name “Winnipesaukee” is a Native American term meaning “Smile of the Great Spirit.” I love that!

As we stopped in Wolfeboro to drop off some of the passengers aboard, the sky was changing.
The water was changing, too.
Approaching the dock at Weirs Beach. We *just* made it back to our truck before a downpour. SO lucky to have had such a beautiful day while aboard the Mt. Washington!

Back at our campsite, we had a beautiful evening and sunset!

On Friday (7/17) morning, we eased into the day with coffee, taking a few photos at the water’s edge.

After breakfast, we drove up to Glen Ellis Falls in Pinkham Notch. Below is a map of this area.

We have yet to see a real-live Moose.
Although the hike is short (.4 mi.), there are 130 stone steps to navigate on a rather steep slope (elev. gain 78’). Down from the falls is a swimming hole that sounded like a lot of fun, but a little challenging to get to.

As we climbed back up those 130 steps, we saw a sign post pointing to access to the AT (you can see it on the map above), but that, too, was more than we wanted to undertake. We’ll find an easier access point another day 🙂

We stopped at the outlets at Settlers Green in North Conway on the way home after another excellent day.

    Your pix are great. We remember Lake Winnipesaukee as beautiful, but can not remember when we were there. It may have been with Tom, when we had the small boat.
