February 17 – Museum Day

We started our day downtown with an early lunch t the Sunset Pier at the Ocean Key Resort & Spa.

Based on “A Dance at Bougival” by Renoir, this is the work of Seward Johnson; below,
his “Daydreaming” sculpture as viewed from the second-story landing on the
staircase inside the museum (photo is cropped to delete the yellow “caution” tape
surrounding the sculpture as it undergoes repair.

The “Old Man and the Sea” exhibit of Guy Harvey sketches alongside text from Hemingway’s book
spanned two floors of the museum.

Surprised to see a “dive” as part of a museum exhibit?  The Green Parrot began in 1890 as a grocery store.
Its owner, Anthony Sanchez, was the grandfather of Mario Sanchez (above), whose work was also
beautifully exhibited in this museum.  The music scene of the Green Parrot began in the grocery’s
small back room, where local musicians met for jam sessions.

  1. We were finally catching up with your travels tonight. Been busy times around here, but nothing fun so we're living vicariously thru you guys! BTW, nobody wants to see Doug in that clothing optional bar!!!!!
