Marathon – Week #1 (story on that)

So sorry to say good-bye to Key West.  Our visit surpassed our expectations (and they were very high and hopeful).

Views above and below of Boot Key Harbor, where we are on a mooring right across from Sister Creek.  We are in a great spot with lots of breeze blowing from the creek and Boot Key Channel.  Immediately upon arrival, we discovered yet another problem with our generator, which runs our refrigerator and freezer.  We are now waiting for delivery of a new refrigerator and freezer as well as solar panels which will be mounted on stainless hardware above our bimini — sometime within the next two weeks, we hope.  Given yet another delay due to mechanical difficulties, it is very unlikely we will get to the Bahamas this year.   We have not heard good reports from those who have been there this winter — in fact, some have been waiting for the arrival of good weather to enable safe crossing back to the States.  Well, who said we wanted to cross off ALL of the Bucket List items in a single trip?

We happily discovered Sombrero Beach where Sister Creek meets the ocean waters.

We love creativity and ingenuity.  This is the brainchild of Joel, who lives with his wife and children in the Harbor.  His floating food “shack” serves delicious coffee, breakfast and lunch fare, and all you need to do is dinghy over, tie up, and he’ll appear on the dock to take your order and deliver a great meal to take back to your boat and enjoy.
